Abstract
The metaphor is a linguistic phenomenon that is found in many languages of the world. The notion of metaphor in the Arabic sciences is still the subject of controversy and debate not only among Arabic language scholars, but also the rest of the human sciences. This is due to the effect of metaphor and its relation to the most prominent attribute that Allah Almighty has assigned to man, namely the tongue and elequance. Almighty Allah says: " He created man (3) He taught him the Quran” (Ar-Rahman Surah). This issue also touches on the purpose and mission for which man was created. It is his belief in his Lord, his attributes, actions, and his approach to be close to Him. In addition, the motives for the metaphorical study in Arabic rhetoric are religious. Researchers in linguistics used to take into account the religious factor, whether they knew it or not, especially in the first centuries of the advent of Islam.
This study sheds light on the attitude of one of the great scholars in the modern age who deviates from the the majority of the scholars of language and Sharia on the issue of metaphor, namely Al Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ameen Al-Shanqeeti (Dead 1393 AH). The methodology of the research necessitates that it consists of an introduction followed by two sections. The introduction deals with metaphor, its definition, its conditions, its contradictions, and analogy with it. The first section introduces the old scholars’ opinions regarding the issue of metaphor and their arguments, whether confirming or rejecting it. The second section, which is the most important in this study, introduces Al Sheikh Al-Shanqeeti's attitude and arguments of metaphor in the Noble Qur’an and Arabic language.
